The Ritual Method
In the early 1900s the method used in the cultural history of Absinthe in France and Switzerland.
Requirement of equipment for this method are
– Absinthe
An Absinthe glass required
A slotted spoon specially designed for use with Absinthe.
A cube of sugar is taken
– A carafe or Absinthe fountain of iced water.
Method of the ritual recipe:-
Take 25-50ml of Absinthe.
Absinthe spoon is rested on top of the glass to place the sugar cube on it.
Set the tap on the fountain to a slow drip over the sugar cube. The sugar cube will slowly dissolve into the water and mix into the Absinthe.
Water makes the drink louche (go cloudy or milky). The louche effect is caused by Absinthe as it contains essential oils like wormwood which are soluble in alcohol but not in water.
Stir to enjoy your Absinthe.
Take water and Absinthe in the ratio between 3:1 and 5:1
“Glass in a Glass” method is the Ritual method. With this method you place a small glass containing the Absinthe into a larger glass and drip water into the small glass which then overflows into the larger glass. Remove the small glass when water and all of the Absinthe is in the larger glass.

Necessities of this method
– Absinthe
– An Absinthe glass
Take an Absinthe Spoon
A cube of sugar is taken
Take a lighter or match
Iced water is added
Quantity of Absinthe into the glass is 25-50ml.
Soak the sugar cube in Absinthe and allow to rest on the spoon.
Sugar cube is caramelize, melt and drip into Absinthe.
Add iced water to Absinthe for its louche.
This is popular method in recent times especially in Absinthe bars in the Czech Republic. Many Absinthe drinkers scorn this method because it is not traditional.
